What is LTL freight?
Less-than-truckload freight shares trailer space with other shipments and moves through carrier terminals.
How many pallets is LTL?
Typically 1–6 pallets; larger shipments often move as volume or partial truckloads.
What is freight class?
A classification from 50 to 500 used to price LTL freight, based mainly on density, handling and liability.
How do I calculate freight density?
Divide the weight in pounds by the volume in cubic feet (length × width × height in inches ÷ 1,728).
What is reclassification?
When a carrier re-measures or re-weighs freight and changes its class, often increasing the price.
Do I need a liftgate?
If the delivery location has no dock or forklift, request a liftgate in advance.
What is residential delivery?
Delivery to a home or non-commercial location, which usually incurs an extra charge.
How should I package LTL freight?
Palletise, stretch-wrap, avoid overhang and label every handling unit.
Is LTL slower than truckload?
Often, because freight passes through terminals and may change trailers.
When should I switch from LTL to truckload?
When you regularly ship about 6–10 pallets or more, or need faster, lower-handling transit.
